Last August we delivered a Premises Safety session to Trustees, Group Lead Volunteers, and District Lead Volunteers, we’ve now got a great case study for taking a conversation and achieving compliance and beyond!

Case Study – 25th Allerton, Liverpool South

After attending the half day learning session, Group Lead Volunteer, Jane, working with her Board of Trustees, has been able to deliver some outstanding results at their Group HQ:

  • They formed a Premises Management Sub-Team – putting teams based volunteering at the heart of what we do
  • Used the Safe Scout Premises audit checklist and created a list of SMART objectives for the sub-team to work through
  • Secured an Eco Green grant to undertake work to their HQ
  • Created a new agenda item and report for their Board of Trustees on Premises Management aiming for amazing assurance!
  • Collated all safety certificates, risk assessments, policies, and procedures and shared them with the teams
  • Updated their H&S noticeboards, fire action notices, and signage throughout
  • They’re also looking at how they can put their HQ at the centre of their groups 75th Anniversary in 2026!

“From concerns to conversations, from naivety to knowledge, I would never have guessed that attending a Merseyside Scouts Premises Management learning session could benefit our Scout Group so much and in such a short period of time. It has given us the strength and ambition to grow in so many exciting ways and feedback from the community is more than positive. And it started with just two of us attending a session and inspiring us to boldly plan ahead. Excellent guidance. Thank you!” Jane Leadbetter, Group Lead Volunteer

Safer Scouting is at the heart of what we do, and more Premises Management learning sessions will be coming up soon, so please keep an eye open!

“Safety is fundamental to our movement, and I am so pleased that a half day session has led to significant improvements in safety and compliance at a group level, I’m excited to see the HQ grow and develop, allowing our young people to learn more skills for life, and give our adult volunteers a space that they can be proud of and in which they can continue to build brighter tomorrows for the community in Liverpool South.” Matthew Jones, County Safety Advisor
