1st Speke Scout Group

After working with local young people, adults and youth organisation over the last six months Merseyside Scouts have now opened a brand new group called 1st Speke.
First meet/opening night for Breavers and Cubs (6 to 10.5 years) was on tuesday 6th November. Great success and turnout, the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Great local support: 3 new Assistant Leaders from Speke and four Occasional helpers - all with no previous Scouting experience.

The new 1st Speke Group is initially being supported by 1st Allerton Scout Group and the South Liverpool South District so a big thank you to them for their commitment and help.

We are looking to expand the group by adding a Scout section age range 10.5 to 14 years. We are cuurently looking for a volunteers for this age range and a Group Scout Leader.

We meet once a week on Tuesdays at 6.30pm to 7.45p at St Ambrose Youth Base, Heath Gate Avenue, Speke, L24 7RS.

Work With Primary Schools

Primary School trips to Tawd Vale: Three Speke Primary Schools were taken to Tawd Vale on separate occasions for a day of fun and challenging activities, focusing on teamwork, physical exercise and problem solving. The days were a great success and gave the young people a good introduction to Scouting, learning new skills such as rock climbing, archery, orienteering and forest skills.

Summer Clubs

Summer Club for twenty 11 to 15 year olds. We delivered a 6 week programme of activities with YP from the St Ambrose Catholic Youth Service provision; this is an established organisation with a keen youth base. The activities we provided included, kayaking, first aid delivered in partnership with Merseyside Fire Service, high wires, leap of faith, bouldering, trekking, geocaching, and backwoods cooking. The programme promoted learning new skills, building self confidence and working together. The Summer Club not only provided exciting and adventurous activities, it gave the YP some understanding of modern scouting and ethos. Working in partnership with this organisation immediately gained the trust and confidence of the YP.

Wingdings Visit

40 children from the Speke Five Youth Centre were taken to this annual event, enjoying over 30 activities. The day was a great opportunity to meet young Scouts from the Merseyside District, and to experience scouting on a big scale.

Promotion Days

Promotion Day at Speke Retail Park

The day was a great success and very well supported by Merseyside South Liverpool Scout District. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by young people and adults attending the retail park, making the most of the free climbing sessions we provided. There was plenty of new interest in the new 1st Speke Group and Scouting on Merseyside.

Aintree Family Fun Day

The day was at Aintree Racecourse and was a mixture of different activities such as Pony rides, arts and crafts, dance and an xfactor competition.

We used the opportunity to showcase what scouting is about, talking to parents and engaging with young people. We installed the mobile climbing wall and used the Scout gazebo, the wall was a major draw and huge success with a constant flow of young people and parents. We also managed to sign up/get details form lots of new parents and children.
