West Wirral Scouts celebrate St George’s Day with giant picnic and Fire Display.

Over 350 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers walked in en-masse to the Wirral Country Park this weekend to celebrate St Georges Day. Carrying their flags representing the 16 Scout Groups that form West Wirral Scout District, the young people walked in from Heswall, Caldy and Royden Park for a giant picnic followed by a spectacular fire display.

The fire display, symbolising St George slaying the fire breathing dragon, involved flaming swords, fire juggling and fire eating. During the day at the park, all the members of West Wirral Scouts renewed their Scout promise and two Scouts and a Beaver Scout were invested whilst surrounded by the whole District.

After the display the Scouts paused for a moment reflection before the district renewed their promises together and gave out training awards to adults from the district. Following a national appeal this week for new leaders, Scouts in West Wirral received 6 new leadership enquiries which will allow us to offer everyday adventure to even more young people.

District Commissioner, Phill Richardson said, “It was fantastic to see so many young people out enjoying the sunshine today, it’s days like today, when the sun is shining and the young people are out having fun that makes being a Scout Leader so rewarding
