Well almost, on Sunday 26th March the 1st Frankby Greasby (Royden) Cub Scout
Pack based in West Kirkby, climbed the 420 steps from the bottom of the Royal
Liver Building to the very top. In total they climbed the height of the building
5 times, that a massive 35,000 steps in total!
The pack was helping to raise money for the Gimmie
5 Challenge set up last year between the WWF and the Scout Association. The
aim is to help raise money by doing fun and exciting activities. All money
raised will not only be for WWF’s work in protecting endangered species
and habitats around the world, but also to enable Scouts from around the
globe to attend the Centenary World Scout Jamboree in 2007.
In total there we’re 17 Cubs and 4 Leaders and adults taking part in
the climb and Matthew, aged 8, who was in charge of counting steps, told me “I
have never been up before, but I have seen it from outside. It was great!”. The
Group is aiming to raise over £1000.00 for this excellent cause.
The Cub’s climbing their own Everest links in
with one of the Group Leaders own personal challenge, later on this year
Paul Beacall and a team are planning on scaling the real Mount Everest in
Nepal. The team consists of 5 people and it is expected to take them a total
of 10 weeks to reach the summit.
Well Done To The
Cubs & Good Luck To Paul!
