Who is this event for?
For 30 years the Challenge has represented an annual opportunity for Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Guides, Ranger Guides and their supporters to join together in sporting competition and meet for a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

When is this years Challenge?
This year the Beavan Challenge will take place over the weekend of the 2nd - 4th October 2009, The Closing Date for entries is yet to be annouced.

The Challenge Elements
All of the events will be based around the site area, which will only require support teams to run your campsite, the events that form part of the challenge are:

  • Hiking/Orienteering
  • Canoeing
  • Air Rifle Shooting
  • First Aid
  • Assault Course
  • Optional Mountain Biking Course (Separate Competition)

Two sessions will be completed on the Saturday and One on Sunday. Points will be awarded on a Team basis. Every competitor that completes the Challenge will receive a certificate.

How big is a team?
Teams are made up of 3 who must all come from one of the following categories:

  • Junior Scouts - Under 12½  (born after 31st Dec 1995)
  • Senior Scouts - Over  12½
  • Explorer Scouts - 14 – 18th Birthday
  • Guides - under 15
  • Ranger Guides - over 15

You can enter as many teams as you wish in any of the categories.

Where is the Beavan Held?
This year we will be based on an easy access site at Forest Camp, Sandiways. The Cheshire County Camp site,  Grid ref 117/595695.

The Camp Site will be available on Friday evening, the Challenge commences on Saturday morning, teams not wishing to camp on Friday evening, will have to arrive early on Saturday morning.

The presentation of Trophies and Certificates will conclude the Event, as usual, around 14:30 on the Sunday.

Rules

  • Troops/Units may enter as many teams as they wish in any of the following categories, teams are made up of three people.
    • Junior Scouts - Under 12½  (born after 31st Dec 1995)
    • Senior Scouts - Over  12½
    • Explorer Scouts - 14 – 18th Birthday
    • Guides - under 15
    • Ranger Guides - over 15
  • All competitors must be able to perform basic canoeing techniques and be able to swim 50mtrs in clothing.
  • BCU 1 star grade, is not compulsory but is Strongly recommended, if you require further details, contact      Clive Potter … Tel 0151.734.0554…
  • Any Canoeist considered to be incompetent by the Organisers will be withdrawn in the interest of safety.
  • Also, In the interest of safety, any teams who are not correctly equipped for the Hike section will be withdrawn.
  • All competitors must be able to read an O.S map & use a compass.
  • Teams will need to provide only 1 Kayak per Team entered and suitable clothing for the event.
    • To comply with regulations we need to have confirmation that your Boat Registration Certificate is current.
    • Kayaks not registered or in Good condition will not be allowed into the competition.
    • f you have any concerns about your Kayak condition or testing, contact your District Water Activities Adviser.
  • Teams to decide on the number of bikes they require
  • An Information Booklet giving full details of requirements for each event, will be sent to you on receipt of your Entry Form & Entry Fees (cheque)
